Hurrah! For gardeners the weekend of St. Isidore the farmer is at hand

Lettuces of several varieties have been bursting through the soil in my garden for several weeks much to the delight of the human occupants of the house who love salads. The bunnies who reside at “Goose Creek” are pretty happy about it to.

But now the time has come for serious planting. I traditionally plant vegetables and herbs as well as cutting flowers on the weekend closest to the feast day of St. Isidore, May 15. Look for a preview May 13 on what we’ll be planting at home.

Fellow gardener and faithful foodie Scott Alessi and his wife, Kathleen enjoy the growing season as well. Scott will be offering a recipe for a taco rich with avocado and raddish stuffing (among other ingredients) which should be a real treat. Look for his recipe on May 15.
