As the weekend of St. Isidore the Farmer begins, time to check NJ’s growing season

Brother Pete and I took a survey of the garden this morning and came away amazed once again that the spring growing season has been so kind to gardeners.

In our garden, the rains have brought a bounty of lettuces, as I mentioned before. The herbs are doing well too. I always grow several varities of sage and they are bouncing back beautifully. Last year’s oregano has wintered over and the new basil is doing fine. This Sunday, we’ll be heading over to our favorite local garden center to select more herbs and vegetable plants.

As always, I’ll be checking out the invaluable resources from the NJ Department of Agriculture and I invite you to do the same by stopping by this link www.state.nj.us/agriculture

You’ll get a great indication of what works well in Jersey and when it’s time to plant and harvest.

Don’t forget to stop by Keeping the Feast on Sunday, May 15, for Scott’s special take on tacos.
