One of the best things about my job is breaking bread with parishioners around the diocese at events that are meaningful to them.
Such an event took place on Catechetical Sunday, Sept. 16 in St. Dominic Parish, Brick, where upwards of 60 religious educators gathered at the 10:30 a.m. Mass. There, they were blessed by their pastor, Msgr. James J. Brady, and feted at the annual brunch which follows the Mass.
Much of the scrumptious brunch fare, including the terrific strata — see recipe below — was prepared by Ann Cramer, director of religious education. Cramer started organizing and cooking for the annual brunch 31 years ago.
It’s one way to give thanks, she says, for all that the catechists give to parish community.
Her strata recipe is definitely a keeper and would be a dish to give thanks for at any opportunity.
Ann Cramer’s Egg Strata
1. Place 10 slices white bread (cut off crust) on bottom of 9″x 13″ lasagna pan
2. Layer 1-1/2 cup each: swiss, monterey and muenster cheeses. You can
add bacon or ham, sausage, asparagus, peppers, etc. if you would like
3. Mix six eggs, 3 cups light cream, 1/2 tsp. onion, 1/2 tsp dry mustard.
Pour over all.
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
